SP14-21 An Introduction to the Welcome to Well-Being Programme
Join author Fiona Forman as she gives an outline of her new 3 -level SPHE programme for Infants to First Class children, Welcome to Well-Being, available in January 2021. Fiona is a former primary teacher and is the co-author of the Weaving Well-Being programme for 2nd to 6th class, which is now in use in the majority of primary schools in Ireland. Her new programme follows the same structure and aims to provide a practical and child-centred resource to help teachers to nurture the well-being of children in the junior classes. Welcome to Well-Being is based on the field of Positive Psychology, which is the science of well-being. It includes concepts such as Positive Emotions, Positive Relationships and Character Strengths. The programme is also underpinned by the concept of emotional regulation.
Each level has 10 lessons and includes a Teacher Resource Book, Pupil Book, posters and multi-media links. It is also linked to the strands and strand units of the SPHE curriculum. The programme has undergone an extensive piloting stage in schools around the country and feedback has been extremely positive.
Fiona will give an overview of the programme, as well as suggestions for implementing it in the classroom.
