Restorative Practice has been gaining in popularity in education circles for over 25 years
now, and is now well established in the Irish landscape. There are many courses that offer
an overview of the skills and philosophy but rarely do they give participants the
opportunity to fully explore these new skills, and in the safe context of a practice partner
who is also on the same path. Weekly emails help focus the learners with relevant suggested resources and this, combined with a weekly call with your practice partner, means you learn just enough at any one time. At the end of this course you will have an awareness of the benefits a restorative approach can bring to your classroom and your life, as well as proficiency in the skills needed to foster good relationships and respond to conflict when it arises.

Tutor: Joe Power

Bio: The course will be delivered by Joe Power, Restorative Practice Development Officer
with the Limerick Restorative Practices Project. The Limerick RP Project is based in the
Moyross Youth Academy (formerly Ceim ar Cheim) and Joe has over 4 years
experience working there and around Limerick and the country as a whole. Joe is a
trainer and quality specialist with CDI Tallaght, as well as under the SynRJ (formally
IIRP Europe) and Restorative Now models. Previously he worked in residential
childcare for 18 years where he first learned and employed the philosophy and skills of
RP. He has considerable experience of training teachers and youth/social care workers
and has also worked with schools and communities in helping embed RP at an
organisatonal/community level. He has three children and employs the values and skills
in this role too (RP ultimately being a way of life). He has contributed numerous articles
and reflections though his blog and in 2020 developed an online RP course in
assciation with CATTS Ireland.
