ECO-UNESCO is Ireland’s leading Environmental Education and Youth Organisation, with over 35 years of experience delivering a variety of environmental education programmes to primary schools, secondary schools, and youth groups including our Young Environmentalist Awards, Environmental Workshops, Student Council Sustainability Trainings, and Teacher CPD Trainings.

This Educator Session focuses on mentoring techniques to help facilitate and empower young people to take environmental action in their youth group, community, or school.

During this session, you will:

  • Explore fun and easy ways to create and nurture young environmentalists in your classroom.
  • Receive a FREE copy of our Action Project Resource.
  • Learn about the Young Environmentalist Awards (YEA) and how they can help meet your learning outcomes.
  • Discover project inspiration and ideas to help your young environmentalists enter the ECO-UNESCO's Young Environmentalist Awards programme.
  • Explore a range of activities that teachers and educators can carry out with their students to support Education for Sustainable Development (ESD).

All participants will receive a free programme manual for the Young Environmentalist Awards which contains useful information and valuable tips for facilitating and supporting young environmentalists.

All participants of this educator session will receive a free copy of our Action Project Resource and Young Environmentalist Programme Manual, along with links to find further information, resources, and support.

ECO-UNESCO’s Young Environmentalist Awards programme (YEA) is the biggest ECO-Action programme in Ireland that recognises, supports, and rewards groups of young people (aged between 10-18) who raise environmental awareness through creating sustainability and environmental action projects in their youth group, local school or community.

There are 12 environmental themes to choose from when creating an environmental action project, with ECO-UNESCO providing free supports and helpful resources to each action project group who are registered for the YEA. These supports include free training and guidance for planning an action project using ECO-UNESCO’s “6 Steps to Success” framework. This unique framework is a step-by-step guide to creating an environmental action project from start to finish in 6 easy-to-follow steps.

This educator session “Facilitating your Environmentalists” will explore this “6-Steps-To-Success” framework guide for creating an environmental action project, which educators can replicate with their student or youth group to support young environmentalists.

We will also explore how participating in the Young Environmentalist Awards programme can support learning outcomes and curriculum objectives, with this action project programme supporting your curriculum objectives in the Junior Cycle, especially in relation to Wellbeing, CSPE, Geography and Science, and the Senior Cycle in relation to Geography, Home Economics, Politics in Society and LCVP.
