Through the lens of Structured Literacy, we will uncover the crucial elements of reading instruction that are beneficial for all students and harmful to none. This will be an introduction to the series of sessions to come and participants will leave with a basic understanding of the science of reading.

Bio of Presenter: Lauren Walsh (@FUNemic_Awareness, @FunWithLiteracy, @LitLeaderLauren)
Lauren Walsh is a certified literacy specialist who develops educators' knowledge of effective literacy instruction at the local, national, and international level. She has had the honor of working as a kindergarten, 2nd grade and 3rd grade teacher, reading intervention specialist, literacy and language coach, adjunct assistant professor for USC’s Reading and Literacy Added Authorization program, and facilitator for AIM Institute’s Pathways to Proficient Reading. Currently Lauren is working as a Literacy Specialist for Heggerty Phonemic Awareness. She also created Read.Inspire.Learn to customize professional development in all aspects of literacy instruction. Lauren is proud to serve on California Department of Education’s State Literacy Team where she developed professional development resources to be shared statewide. Lauren is also a certified dance fitness instructor and has a passion to engage her “students” (both children and adults) through performance and movement to get them excited about the essential components of reading. She lives in Agoura Hills, California with her husband and their two daughters who love dance parties and "reading with their ears" as much as she does.
