Calling Meath Primary Schools

We are looking for five schools in the Meath area to work with the Nerve Centre in Derry on a digital animation project based on the stories of Colmcille. The five teachers will learn digital skills in animation as well as storyboarding and scriptwriting. The entire project is online. Teacher training will take place in May/June with the class work taking place in the Autumn and a showcase is planned for all twenty schools on December 7th. Funding is provided by Meath County Council Libraries, Arts and Heritage departments, there is no cost to the school.

Project details

To commemorate the 1500th anniversary of the birth of Colmcille in Gartan, the Library services in Meath, Donegal and Sligo , the Nerve Centre Creative Learning Centre in Derry (CLC), along with Libraries NI are offering your school the opportunity to create a digital animation based on the stories of Colmcille.

Nerve Centre tutors will work with your selected teachers and train them on how to create an animation with their class. They will work closely with them and help them, along with their pupils from the project initiation right through to project completion: script writing, storyboard, animation, voiceover and editing. They will help you create your animation assets and also 'zoom' into the classroom and help you animate your stories.

Throughout this project they will work with 20 schools, who will each create their own Colmcille story. Their in house animator and designer will work on the final animation- editing, adding additional scenes which may be required and greenscreen colour touch up, in order to enhance the work, however not taking away from the pupils work. These 20 animations will then be exhibited and showcased in an event on the 7th December 2021.

We envisage that these workshops will commence in May 2021, with online teacher training.  The classroom work will take place in Sept-Nov 2021.  The aim throughout this project is to embed the skills of animation within your teachers and to build their confidence to use these skills within the classroom.  The Nerve Centre tutors  will work one to one with your teachers and guide them through this whole process.  They have created a lot of Colmcille assets and teaching resources which your teachers will have access to throughout this project, in order to help them as much as possible.  Previous Colmcille work provided by the Nerve Centre and working with local pupils in Derry can be found here: https://ccea.org.uk/colmcille/
